Giveaways

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

Thanks to the great people at EMI Australia we have some great giveaways for Perth Music readers. The CD’s we have are:

30 Seconds To Mars - A Beautiful Lie
You may have heard about 30 Seconds Mars because of their famous front man, actor Jared Leto. Or maybe you’ve heard about them because of their recent win at the US MTV Music Video Awards. Either way, if you haven’t heard about them you soon will!

The Stooges - The Weirdness
One of the most eagerly anticipated albums of 2007, The Weirdness is destined to be as inspiring, unpredictable and undeniable as the three records that preceded it over three decades ago. The release of the album will be followed by a full world tour that will clearly display the energy, vitality and freshness of one of rock and roll’s greatest success stories.

LCD Soundsystem - Sound Of Silver
Two years after LCD Soundsystem’s eponymous full-length debut sent indie scenesters rushing to the dancefloor, the outfit headed by dance-rock producer James Murphy serves up another stiff cocktail of punk, dance, and funk with Sound of Silver.

Cannot Buy My Soul - The Songs of Kevin Carmody
The high calibre of artists featured - Bernard Fanning, The Herd, Tex Perkins, The Waifs, Missy Higgins, Augie March, Clare Bowditch, The John Butler Trio and many more is testament to the level of respect shared amongst the Australian musical community, and also the impact that Kev has had on Australian music.

Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha
The Chicago Bird’s tenth album is perhaps his most diverse, expansive, and resourceful yet, catering to a half-dozen genres of music while exploring storylines that are naïve, candid, and blatantly comical.

If you would like to go in the draw to win one of these CD’s all you have to do is email your details to perthmusic@gmail.com with the Artist of the CD you like to win in the subject field.

Silverchair Announce Young Modern Tour

Monday, March 19th, 2007

Silverchair have scored their first #1 on the Australian singles charts in over a decade with today’s chart topping debut of their new release “Straight Lines“.

It’s the group’s third #1 single in Australia (alongside 1995’s “Tomorrow” and 1997’s “Freak“) and it’s already been certified gold. Silverchair are now the only Australian band other than The Easybeats and The Seekers in the 1960s to have three #1 singles.

In a sign of the changed times the internet has played an important part in spreading the word about this song with over 1,000,000 video views via the popular myspace.com website alone. The single has also received more Australian radio and tv airplay than any other song of Silverchair’s career to date.

Straight Lines” is the first taste of the trio’s highly anticipated album YOUNG MODERN which hits stores on Saturday March 31.

Two days after that release tickets will go onsale for a handful of unusually intimate Australian gigs to help launch the disc. While the band has headlined major festivals like Homebake and Pyramid over the last year, the “Young Modern Tour” will be the trio’s first indoor concerts in their homeland for nearly four years.

Dates and venues for the brief “Young Modern Tour” are as follows and given the relatively intimate nature of these venues, tickets are expected to go quite quickly. Special guests on all shows will be acclaimed Sydney indie band Dappled Cities Fly.

Friday 27 April - The Tivoli Brisbane (18+)
Tues 1 May- Metro Nightclub Melbourne (18+)
Fri 4 May- Thebarton Theatre Adelaide (Lic & AA)
Sun 6 May- Metropolis Fremantle (18+)
Wed 9 May- Enmore Theatre Sydney (Lic & AA)
Sat 12 May - Groovin The Moo Festival Maitland

Tickets for these shows go onsale to the general public at noon on April 2 (although the Maitland festival is already onsale).

If you want to experience Silverchair live before this tour you may want to check out a special live set to be broadcast on the Nova radio network from 6pm to 7pm on Sunday April 1 and/or the band’s appearance later that same night on the premiere of network 10’s new “Rove” TV show.

Birds Of Tokyo Announce The Wayside Tour

Friday, March 16th, 2007

Not content with sitting still, Perth’s Birds of Tokyo are set to hit the road again and are pleased to announce the Wayside National tour this April/May, proudly supported by triple j and Supersonic.  After touring major capital cities in February, Birds of Tokyo take the Wayside tour one step further  with dates in Moorooduc, Albury, Byron Bay (just to name a few), as well as all most capital cities.

Since the release of their self produced record ‘Day One’, the past few weeks for Birds of Tokyo have literally been a blur.  Their national album tour in February saw the Birds’ sell out a bunch of shows on the east coast.  With their incredibly catchy rock songs fast earning the band a solid reputation, demand for the album was so huge; ‘Day One’ was completely out of stock across the country! After a whirlwind tour, Birds of Tokyo returned home to play a sell out show and took home the WAMi Award for Favourite Newcomer and front man Ian Kenny, grabbed the Most Popular Male Vocalist WAMi, which they share with Karnivool!

With the album’s radio singles Off Kilter and Black Sheets doing their thing at radio nationally, the support for Birds of Tokyo from punters and media alike has been massive. Wayside, one of the band’s highlight sing-along tracks is set to hit radio next month.

Before the Wayside Tour kicks off, Perth fans can catch Birds of Tokyo at Blackjack on Thursday April 5 alongside the Pixies, The Living End, Gnarls Barkley, The Vines, Eskimo Joe and Children Collide.  Claremont Showgrounds is where it’s at and tickets are on sale now. Check out http://www.heatseeker.com.au for details.
