Live Touring With Nollsy

Thursday, August 17th, 2006

After an absence of nearly two years, multi-platinum rockers Live return to Australia this October

Having last visited during their “Awake – The Best Of” Tour in 2004, Live are back to bring to you their rock classics and to deliver songs from their new album Songs From Black Mountain.  With album sales in excess of 20 million, Live’s guitar-based dynamic rock combined with Ed Kowalczyk’s passionate, self and spiritually aware lyrics, continues to be a force around the world.Coming out of Pennsylvania in the late ‘80’s, Live’s stunning success over 15 years has produced seven previous, highly successful and multi-platinum albums.

Debuting with Mental Jewelry in 1991, their real break came with their 2nd release Throwing Copper, selling over 12 million copies world-wide with three huge singles lifted from the album including I Alone & Selling The Drama. With the band now established in rock’s mainstream, the album made it to Billboard’s #1 spot 52 weeks after it’s original release.

Live’s 3rd studio album Secret Samadhi (‘97) hit #1 on the Billboard charts, followed up by The Distance To Here (‘99), V (‘01), Birds of Prey (‘03), and Awake: The Best of Live (‘04).

Live have been regular visitors to Australia since 1995, a consistency and live performance reputation that has built them a large and loyal audience.

The Sleepy Jackson Touring

Monday, August 14th, 2006

Perth band The Sleepy Jackson, fronted by unique singer/songwriter/artist Luke Steele, have announced details of an Australian headline tour in support of the new album ‘Personality One Was A Spider One Was A Bird.’

The tour will take in all states and kicks off September 7 in Hobart leading through to Perth on September 23.

It’s a triumphant return for The Sleepy Jackson with Personality debuting at #10 on the Australian Motorola ARIA Album Chart earlier this month. The album is already being heaped with critical praise both locally and internationally, where it’s being released in the UK, North America, throughout Europe and South East Asia. The press includes 4 star reviews in Rolling Stone, Q, Mojo and Uncut.

The tour announcement ties in perfectly with the news that The Sleepy Jackson have just been nominated for the 6th J Award nomination of 2006 for ‘Personality‘.

And if that wasn’t enough good news for one media release, the band release their new single ‘Devil Was In My Yard‘ to radio and TV next week. The video was directed by Squareyed Films (Silverchair, The Living End, Missy Higgins, Bob Evans) and again confirms The Sleepy Jackson as one of this country’s most unique and creative bands.

The band will be playing at The Bakery Artrage Complex in Perth on September 22nd and 23rd.

The single DEVIL WAS IN MY YARD instores September 16.  The album PERSONALITY (One Was A Spider, One Was A Bird) instores now.

Jet return to Oz

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

Jet return to Australia in mid August triumphant as their Melbourne show sells out in a day and their Sydney show now has only a small number of limited tickets available.  Hopefully they play a Perth show soon as well.

The Melbourne boys have returned home after spending months living in LA and recording their new album ‘Shine On’, which is being released on September 30.

Fans were unexpectedly treated to a taste of the Dave Sardy produced album today when the first single ‘Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is’ was leaked to US radio ahead of its official planned unveiling on Monday.

Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is’ combines the spirit of Curtis Mayfield with the much loved Jet trademark sound, and is a rock and soul shakedown that meets all expectations for a return to the airwaves.

Jet’s homecoming week also includes a special tribute to Rose Tattoo with a performance of ‘We Can’t Be Beaten’ at the ARIA Hall of Fame on August 16. It follows a recent mind-blowing Fuji Festival performance where eight new songs were played to a more than enthusiastic crowd.

The single ‘PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS’ is instore September 9 and the album ‘SHINE ON’ is instore September 30.

Coming Soon - Brick

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

Brick is an inspired fusion of teenage confidential and hard-boiled film noir set in the mean corridors and power cliques of a contemporary Southern California high school. It starts, as all good detective stories should, with the disappearance of a young dame, who has just enough time to make a desperate appeal to her ex-boyfriend, Brendan (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), for help before vanishing, then turns up dead. From there, the plot takes a series of serpentine turns to rival The Maltese Falcon as Brendan becomes embroiled in the web of vice and deceit that surrounds her murder.

To coincide with the season of BRICK people have a chance to Win a screening to Brick with 20 friends. Just visit  http://www.brickmovie.com.au/winbig/email_solo.htm

The Next Big Thing For 2006 is…

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

FIRST PLACE: STREETLIGHT
SECOND PLACE: MINK MUSSEL CREEK
THIRD PLACE: HOOPER’S STORE

APRA SONG-WRITING PRIZE: THE FLAMING SHEILAS (ALBANY)
BEST VOCALIST prize of a MILAB Microphone courtesy of MICROPHONE SOLUTIONS
AUSTRALIA: JASON BARTLETT OF BARTLETT (GERALDTON)

Ten years and still going strong!  The State Final of The Next Big Thing (WA) 2006 original music showcase at the Rosemount Hotel on Saturday pulled a totally full house of eager punters to witness the final showdown.  After months of heats around the state and three semi-finals held over recent weeks, the finalists had already beaten off over 200 contenders to reach the last seven spots.  It was a magnificent effort by all!

There can be only be one BIG winner and the energetic STREETLIGHT stole the show with their stage theatrics, wild playing and goofy haircuts. Streetlight won a large swag of prizes that will set them up for their rock star careers. Psychedelic 60s pastiche, Mink Mussel Creek, were worthy runners-up and Hooper’s Store were impressive in third place with their mesmeric low-fi set. For their efforts both bands take away a smaller bag of career-starter goodies. Perth punk/metal rockers 75 Laydown were not-so-lucky on the night but still amazing.

Full marks also to the regional heat winners who slugged it out before a packed audience of frenzied fans at the Swan Basement for the REGIONAL SEMI-FINAL the previous night.  The winners on the night were Bartlett (Geraldton), The Flaming Sheilas (Albany) and The Second Rule (Margaret River via Bunbury) who swept all before them to get through to the State Final.
