Ten years and still going strong!  The State Final of The Next Big Thing (WA) 2006 original music showcase at the Rosemount Hotel on Saturday pulled a totally full house of eager punters to witness the final showdown.  After months of heats around the state and three semi-finals held over recent weeks, the finalists had already beaten off over 200 contenders to reach the last seven spots.  It was a magnificent effort by all!

There can be only be one BIG winner and the energetic STREETLIGHT stole the show with their stage theatrics, wild playing and goofy haircuts. Streetlight won a large swag of prizes that will set them up for their rock star careers. Psychedelic 60s pastiche, Mink Mussel Creek, were worthy runners-up and Hooper’s Store were impressive in third place with their mesmeric low-fi set. For their efforts both bands take away a smaller bag of career-starter goodies. Perth punk/metal rockers 75 Laydown were not-so-lucky on the night but still amazing.

Full marks also to the regional heat winners who slugged it out before a packed audience of frenzied fans at the Swan Basement for the REGIONAL SEMI-FINAL the previous night.  The winners on the night were Bartlett (Geraldton), The Flaming Sheilas (Albany) and The Second Rule (Margaret River via Bunbury) who swept all before them to get through to the State Final.
