NBT Final This Weekend

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

The Rosemount and The Amplifier were packed this weekend with the two huge metro semi finals of the Next Big Thing competition. 16 fantastic acts turned the local original music scene upside down proving their mettle, but only 4 could be chosen as state finalists to compete in this weekens State Final!!
Congratulations to all the bands that played and a special huge congratulations to our metro state finalists!!…

MINK MUSSEL CREEK
Rising from the ashes of the Electric Blue Acid Dogs, Mink Mussel Creek draw upon a wide range of influences including King Crimson, Boris, Ride, Jethro Tull, Iggy and the Stooges and the Brian Jonestown Masacre, but that’s left to be demonstrated on stage! Contact Jodie Reagan on 0419219011 or management@thekilldevilhills.com

STREETLIGHT
Streetlights amalgamation of musical tastes and influences gave shape to the sound they collectively desired. With the insecurities of genre cohesion behind them, Streetlight allowed nothing but their musical passion to shine through as they nestled themselves in the Perth hills and wrote their debut release throughout 2004. Contact Chris James on 0439913442 or
streetlightbookings@hotmail.com

75 LAYDOWN
In mid 2005 Seventy Five LayDown came together with a vision of bringing a combination of hard edged music with an old school country feel to the Perth music scene. Their collective influences range from punk rock to metal and hard rock. Contact Lee Mayrene 0408 950 075 lee_mayrene@hotmail.com

HOOPERS STORE
Whilst certainly under the influence of groups such as Mogwai, The Mars Volta and Sigur Ros, ‘The Store‘ bring much that is their own to the sound that is ultimately more concerned with ambience and mood than anything else. Contact Chris Sorgiovanni on 0419929883 or sorge@arach.net.au

All States Of Emergency Tour

Thursday, July 20th, 2006

Just before they boarded a plane to the USA The Living End were crowned Kings of the Jack Live Music Awards, when they were granted four awards out of their six nominations. The Jack Awards, the band received (voted for by the public) included; Andy Strachan for Best Drummer, Chris Cheney for Best Male performer and they took out Best Live Band and Best Live TV Performance. Needless to say the punter popularity for these lads continues with a very healthy uptake with tickets sales roaring along for their Australian All States of Emergency tour since it went on sale last week.

‘Nothing Lasts Forever’ the band’s current and fourth single from the new State Of Emergency album was the number three most added to radio last week. Be sure to check out this week’s music TV shows to catch a viewing of the new and very cool 1950’s styled clip which was shot on location in Sydney before the band shot off to the USA.

A reminder that the forthcoming Australian All States Of Emergency tour for The Living End will take place in most states during school holidays and kicks off in WA on August 31st, moving on into South Australia, New South Wales, Tasmania, Victoria, the Northern Territory, Queensland and the ACT throughout September and October.

Introducing Nix

Tuesday, July 4th, 2006

Formed in late 2004, this three-piece spent the first seven months of their alliance solely focused on building and fine tuning their repertoire. Stemming from their contrasting musical backgrounds spewed an energy driven, heavy alternative rock with emotive vocal melodies and an intricate rhythm section. In May ‘05 Nix recorded “Use Your Mind” and “Paranoia” as part of their initial demo at Blackbird studios. Gigging frequently since then, Nix have played with a broad spectrum of local artists and bands at many of Perths leading original music venues.

2006: Nix are currently recording their debut single Runaway. Working with mastermind Roland Lim @ Aussie Assault Studios, the 4-track single looks to have a launch and release scheduled mid-year. Check out the samples on their MySpace page and stay tuned.

Nix are Mark McEwen - Vox & Strings, Ryan Matjeraie - Vox & Bottom End, Jason Coleman - Drums
